Vintage 1990s Cowboys

sweatshirts.

This collection covers Dallas Cowboys sweatshirts from 1990 to 1999, the dynasty decade. With Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin, Dallas beat Buffalo in Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII after the 1992 and 1993 seasons, then beat Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XXX after the 1995 season. Three titles in four years left a deep supply of title crewnecks.

The identity barely moved: the blue star, which took its white line and blue border in 1964 and a blue outline in 1967, with royal blue, navy and silver. Logo 7's owner, Tultex, signed the Cowboys' quarterback to promote its Logo Athletic line, and Starter, Salem, Nutmeg Mills and Pro Player also made Cowboys fleece. Clean, dated title graphics on period tags are the ones to look for.

Which one to buy

From Oct 3, 2026 listings

121 Cowboys sweatshirts are listed, the deepest market of any team, and most go for $40–60 delivered; the wider search even turns up tagged Logo Athletic, Nutmeg and Champion Reverse Weave crewnecks under $40. Pay more only for a period tag (Starter, Salem, Logo Athletic, Nutmeg, Trench, Garan) with a Super Bowl XXVII, XXVIII or XXX graphic, an Emmitt or Aikman piece, or an all-over or double-sided print, and ask for a tag photo, pit-to-pit and length first. Seller feedback wasn't captured for these listings, so check it on each item page. Red flags: a $150 Garan double-sided crewneck at two and a half times the top of the band, one seller's stack of identical '90's Dallas Cowboys Football Sweatshirt' listings, and the same Starter Emmitt title listed at two prices. Budget buyers should take the $48 Salem crewneck in Large, everyday wearers the $50 #8 crewneck in XL, and collectors the Starter Emmitt piece.

NO. 03 · WHAT TO LOOK FOR
  • The star logo has been essentially unchanged since 1967, so it won't date a Cowboys piece. Use the tag, the copyright year and the event on the print.
  • Super Bowl champions graphics should match a title season: XXVII (1992 season), XXVIII (1993) or XXX (1995). Dallas beat Buffalo twice and Pittsburgh once.
  • Maker tags of the decade: Logo 7 (renamed Logo Athletic in 1997), Starter, Salem Sportswear, Nutmeg Mills and its Lee Sport label (from 1995), Russell Athletic and Pro Player. Tultex, Logo 7's owner, signed the Cowboys' quarterback to promote its Logo Athletic line.
  • Tag history narrows the date: Salem was sold to Fruit of the Loom in 1993 and folded into Pro Player, Russell ended its pro football licensing in 1997, and Logo Athletic and Starter were both bankrupt by about 1999.
  • A copyright year printed under the graphic (for example, © 1994) plus licensing text such as "Officially Licensed NFL Product" or an NFL Properties mark. The year should agree with the tag and the construction.
  • Navy "Double-Star" styling is period-correct: Dallas debuted the Double-Star jersey on Thanksgiving 1994 and wore the navy version in 1995. Gear echoing it isn't automatically a later reissue.
  • A Made in USA tag. Big makers moved sewing to Mexico and the Caribbean during the 90s, so a US-made tag supports an earlier date, while a Latin American tag usually points later in the decade.
NO. 04 · REPRODUCTIONS & BOOTLEGS
  • Licensed retro lines such as Mitchell & Ness (NFL throwbacks since about 2000, owned by Fanatics since 2022), Homage and Junk Food reprint old Cowboys logos on new blanks. Their own brand tags give them away, and Homage names designs by year (a '93 crewneck, for example), so a year in a listing title proves nothing.
  • A Reebok tag dates NFL gear to 2002-2012, when Reebok held the league's exclusive uniform, sideline and cap license. A Nike tag is later still, since Nike took over the league's uniform contract in 2012.
  • A familiar label is not automatic proof. Starter is still an active NFL licensee and the Nutmeg Mills name has been revived for vintage-style graphics, so check that the tag design, fabric and country of origin fit the period, not just the brand name.
  • Back-to-back and three-time champions designs were popular and are still reprinted. Make sure the copyright year sits in the 1993-1996 window and that the tag maker existed under that name at the time (Logo Athletic, for instance, replaced Logo 7 in 1997).
  • Dealers list the same red flags again and again: wrong neck tags for the era, missing licensing text, a copyright year that doesn't match the tag, and artificial distressing. A cut-out tag removes the best evidence, so price that piece as unverified.

NO. 05 · SIZING

Tagged sizes from the 90s don't line up neatly with modern sizing, and cotton-rich fleece shrinks in hot washes, which is why Champion patented its shrink-resisting Reverse Weave cut. Ask the seller for pit-to-pit and top-to-bottom length in inches and compare them with a sweatshirt you already own. A stretched waistband or blown-out cuffs will make it fit looser than the numbers suggest.

NO. 08 · FIELD NOTES

Which Super Bowls did the 90s Cowboys win?

Three: Super Bowl XXVII and XXVIII, both against Buffalo, after the 1992 and 1993 seasons, and Super Bowl XXX against Pittsburgh after the 1995 season. A champions graphic for any other season in the decade is not a period title piece.

Is a Logo 7 or Logo Athletic tag better?

Both are genuine 90s labels from the same Indianapolis company. Logo 7 was sold to Tultex in 1992 and renamed Logo Athletic in 1997, and the company went bankrupt about two years later. Pick on condition and design rather than which of the two names is on the tag.

Does single stitching matter on a vintage sweatshirt?

Not much. Single-stitch hems are a T-shirt dating tell, common on tees made before the late 1990s. Sweatshirts finish the cuffs and waist with ribbed bands, so judge a crewneck by its tag, its licensing text and the copyright year on the print instead.

How do I check a Cowboys championship crewneck is period-made?

Match three things: a 90s licensee tag, licensing text on the tag or print, and a copyright year within a season or so of the title. If any one points to a modern retro brand, a Reebok tag or a recent country of origin, treat it as a later reissue.
