Vintage 1990s Packers

sweatshirts.

This collection covers Green Bay Packers sweatshirts made from 1990 to 1999, the decade Brett Favre turned the franchise around. Favre started every game from September 1992 on, won three straight MVP awards from 1995 to 1997, and led Green Bay past New England in Super Bowl XXXI after the 1996 season, then back to Super Bowl XXXII a year later.

The look held steady: the oval "G" adopted in 1961, green and gold. Licensed crewnecks came from Logo 7, Starter, Salem Sportswear, Nutmeg Mills, Russell Athletic and Pro Player, among others. The best originals pair a period tag with a dated print, often a Super Bowl or NFC title graphic, on a clean body that hasn't shrunk.

Which one to buy

From Oct 3, 2026 listings

79 Packers sweatshirts are listed, most at $35–70 delivered, and Favre-era Super Bowl XXXI and XXXII graphics are the common event pieces. Prioritise a named period tag (Logo 7, Starter, Lee Sport, Nutmeg, Tultex, Champion Reverse Weave) and a stated size, and ask for a tag photo plus pit-to-pit and length, since few titles give measurements. Seller feedback wasn't captured for these listings, so check it on each item page. Red flags: a Champion Reverse Weave at about $140 delivered when another is $46, and one seller's run of identical '90's Green Bay Packers Football Sweatshirt' listings at $43–77, which are fine but generic until you see the tag. Budget buyers should take the $36 1998 Favre crewneck, most people the $45 Made in USA Logo 7 in Large, and collectors the $46 Reverse Weave.

NO. 03 · WHAT TO LOOK FOR
  • The oval "G" (1961) and the green-and-gold scheme didn't change during the 90s, so the logo alone can't date a Packers piece. Lean on the tag and the print date.
  • Maker tags of the decade: Logo 7 (renamed Logo Athletic in 1997), Starter, Salem Sportswear, Nutmeg Mills and its Lee Sport label (from 1995), Russell Athletic and Pro Player.
  • Tag history narrows the date: Salem was sold to Fruit of the Loom in 1993 and folded into Pro Player, Russell ended its pro football licensing in 1997, and Logo Athletic and Starter were both bankrupt by about 1999.
  • A copyright year printed under the graphic (for example, © 1994) plus licensing text such as "Officially Licensed NFL Product" or an NFL Properties mark. The year should agree with the tag and the construction.
  • Super Bowl XXXI champions graphics belong to the 1996 season. NFC champions graphics can come from either 1996 or 1997, since Green Bay won the conference both years.
  • Navy-and-gold designs aren't automatically modern. The Packers wore navy-and-gold throwbacks in 1994 for the NFL's 75th anniversary, and the league's Throwbacks retail collection launched in 1991 with Nutmeg Mills making the sweatshirts.
  • A Made in USA tag. Big makers moved sewing to Mexico and the Caribbean during the 90s, so a US-made tag supports an earlier date, while a Latin American tag usually points later in the decade.
NO. 04 · REPRODUCTIONS & BOOTLEGS
  • Licensed retro lines such as Mitchell & Ness (NFL throwbacks since about 2000, owned by Fanatics since 2022), Homage and Junk Food reprint old Packers logos on new blanks. Their own brand tags give them away, and Homage names designs by year (a '93 crewneck, for example), so a year in a listing title proves nothing.
  • A Reebok tag dates NFL gear to 2002-2012, when Reebok held the league's exclusive uniform, sideline and cap license. A Nike tag is later still, since Nike took over the league's uniform contract in 2012.
  • Super Bowl XXXI is one of the most reissued Packers moments. On a title crewneck, check that the copyright year, the tag maker and the construction all agree before trusting the graphic.
  • Dealers list the same red flags again and again: wrong neck tags for the era, missing licensing text, a copyright year that doesn't match the tag, and artificial distressing. A cut-out tag removes the best evidence, so price that piece as unverified.

NO. 05 · SIZING

Tagged sizes from the 90s don't line up neatly with modern sizing, and cotton-rich fleece shrinks in hot washes, which is why Champion patented its shrink-resisting Reverse Weave cut. Ask the seller for pit-to-pit and top-to-bottom length in inches and compare them with a sweatshirt you already own. A stretched waistband or blown-out cuffs will make it fit looser than the numbers suggest.

Can the Packers logo date my sweatshirt?

Not on its own. The oval G has been in use since 1961 and the colors held steady through the 90s, so a 1990 crewneck and a 1999 crewneck can carry the same logo. Date it by the maker tag, the copyright year under the print, and any event in the graphic, such as Super Bowl XXXI or Favre's MVP seasons.

How do I check a Super Bowl XXXI crewneck is period-made?

Green Bay beat New England 35-21 to finish the 1996 season, so an original should carry a copyright year from that season or just after. Look for a 90s licensee tag such as Logo 7, Logo Athletic, Starter, Salem, Nutmeg, Lee Sport or Pro Player, plus licensing text. A modern retro brand tag, or a Reebok or Nike tag, means it was made later.

Does single stitching matter on a vintage sweatshirt?

Not much. Single-stitch hems are a T-shirt dating tell, common on tees made before the late 1990s. Sweatshirts finish the cuffs and waist with ribbed bands, so judge a crewneck by its tag, its licensing text and the copyright year on the print instead.

Which tag is the most collectible?

There is no official ranking, and demand follows the design more than the label. Salem Sportswear is known for original caricature artwork, with its peak roughly 1988 to 1992. Any intact 90s licensee tag is worth more than a missing one, because it is your main dating evidence.
