The Packers,
archived.

Vintage Green Bay Packers sweatshirts and jerseys, filed by era. Super Bowl XXXI champions (1996 season). The oval G and the green-and-gold look have barely changed since 1961, so date Packers gear by its tag, maker and print rather than the logo. Navy-and-gold designs are throwbacks to the pre-1950 era, not period pieces.

NO. 01 · DATING PACKERS GEAR: LOGO & UNIFORM TIMELINE
  1. 1958-59A darker green replaced kelly green in 1958, and the green-or-white jersey with metallic gold pants was adopted soon after Vince Lombardi arrived in 1959.
  2. 1961The oval "G" went on the helmet, designed for Lombardi by equipment manager Gerald "Dad" Braisher and art student John Gordon; it is the only logo the helmet has ever carried.
  3. 1994For the NFL's 75th season the Packers wore navy-and-gold throwbacks recalling their earliest colors.
  4. 2001Navy-and-gold 1930s-style throwbacks returned for a Thanksgiving game in Detroit.
  5. 2003A second Thanksgiving throwback used 1960s green and gold, only slightly different from the regular uniform.
