Vintage 1990s Packers

jerseys.

The Packers' look barely changed in the 90s: dark green or white jerseys, gold pants and the oval "G" helmet logo that dates to 1961. That makes the labels and patches, not the design, the best way to date a jersey. Brett Favre (#4), the starter from 1992, and Reggie White (#92, 1993–98) led Green Bay to a Super Bowl XXXI win after the 1996 season and back to Super Bowl XXXII a year later.

On the field the Packers wore Starter from 1992 to 1996 and Nike from 1997, per the Gridiron Uniform Database. Champion and Starter made the retail replicas. For the NFL's 75th season in 1994, the team wore navy-and-gold throwbacks.

From Oct 3, 2026 listings

847 Packers jerseys are listed for the 90s, the cheapest team market here at $25–45 delivered for most, and nearly all are Brett Favre or Reggie White replicas. Favre's star power is already in those prices, so pay for an era-correct maker (Champion, Starter, Logo Athletic, Logo 7, Wilson, Nike 'Team', Puma) and ask for a tag photo, pit-to-pit and close-ups of the numbers. Red flags: 'Vintage 90s Reebok Favre' listings, which are 2002–07 jerseys because Reebok only became the NFL's supplier in 2002; two XL Favre listings with word-for-word identical titles from different sellers; a '*read*' Wilson Favre with a flaw in the description; and a white Champion #92 at about $85, nearly double the band top. Budget buyers should take the $18 Champion in size 52, first-time buyers the $32 Nike Team Favre in XL, and collectors the Logo Athletic Favre listed as new at $36.

NO. 03 · WHAT TO LOOK FOR
  • Maker labels do the dating: Starter made the on-field jerseys from 1992 to 1996 and Nike from 1997 to 1999. Starter fits the first Favre Super Bowl run, Nike the 1997 return trip.
  • Champion made replica jerseys for every NFL team from the 1980s until 2000, and Starter made replicas for all teams from 1992 to 1998. These retail replicas are the most common 90s jerseys you will find.
  • NFL shield at the collar: on-field jerseys gained a small NFL shield at the bottom of the collar in 1991, so its presence or absence helps date a piece to before or after that season.
  • 1994 throwbacks: the Packers wore navy-and-gold throwbacks for the NFL's 75th season, and every 1994 jersey carried the diamond-shaped 75th Anniversary patch.
  • Super Bowl patches: game patches were worn at Super Bowl XXV and became standard from Super Bowl XXXII (January 1998, Packers vs. Broncos). A XXXII patch ties a jersey to that game.
  • Make sure the maker, the era and the design agree. A label from a company that did not make that team's gear in that period, or a design detail from a later season, means the jersey is newer or not what it claims to be.
NO. 04 · REPRODUCTIONS & BOOTLEGS
  • Mitchell & Ness has made football throwbacks since 2000. They copy classic designs closely but carry the Mitchell & Ness name on the labels, so check every tag before trusting the design.
  • The Packers have since worn throwbacks modeled on their 1929, 1937–49, 1950–53 and 1923 uniforms. Those are modern alternates, not 90s jerseys.
  • Because the green-and-gold design is the same today, a modern Reebok (2002–11) or Nike (2012 on) jersey can look like a 90s one in photos. Ask for close-ups of the labels and the collar shield.
  • Mitchell & Ness sells its NFL Legacy and Authentic throwbacks in numeric sizes (36 S, 40 M, 44 L, 48 XL, 52 2XL, 56 3XL), so a numeric size on its own does not prove a jersey is old.

NO. 05 · SIZING

Tag sizes can differ between makers such as Champion, Starter and the on-field suppliers, so treat the tag as a starting point. Ask for pit-to-pit (armpit to armpit, laid flat) and back length from collar to hem, and compare them with a jersey you own. Tagged sizes vary by maker and era, and many listings are mis-sized.

Starter or Nike: which era is my Packers jersey?

Starter made the Packers' on-field jerseys from 1992 to 1996 and Nike from 1997 to 1999. Starter also made retail replicas for every team from 1992 to 1998, so a Starter label fits the early and mid 90s, while a Nike label points to the late 90s.

How do I tell a 90s Favre jersey from a newer one?

Favre wore #4 for Green Bay long after the 90s, so the name will not date it. Check the maker (Starter, Nike or Champion fit the decade; Reebok means 2002 or later) and the collar shield: the "NFL Equipment" version arrived in 2002.

Did the Packers wear anything different in the 90s?

Only in 1994, when every team marked the NFL's 75th season. The Packers wore navy-and-gold throwbacks in selected games, and all jerseys that year carried the diamond 75th Anniversary patch.

How do I tell a 90s original from a Mitchell & Ness?

Read every label. Mitchell & Ness has made football throwbacks since 2000 and puts its own name on the tags, and it sells them in numeric sizes (44 is a large), so a numeric size is not a sign of age. Then check the details against the year the jersey claims to be from: the collar shield, any patches and the design changes listed above.
