Vintage 1990s Dolphins

jerseys.

The 90s Dolphins belonged to Dan Marino, who wore #13 from 1983 to 1999. The look was aqua or white jerseys with orange trim, and Miami traditionally wears white at home. In 1997 the team updated its logo, simplifying the sunburst and giving the dolphin a darker, more serious look, and switched to a new block number font with navy drop shadows.

Linebacker Zach Thomas (#54) arrived in 1996 and is the other name from the late decade. On the field the Dolphins wore Wilson through 1996, Starter in 1997–98 and Nike in 1999, per the Gridiron Uniform Database. Champion and Starter made the retail replicas.

Which one to buy

From Oct 3, 2026 listings

416 Dolphins jerseys are listed for the 90s, most at $30–70 delivered, and nearly all are Dan Marino #13. Logo 7, Logo Athletic, Starter, Russell and Nike replicas are the everyday buys; Wilson Pro Line Authentic Marinos (sewn numbers, numeric size) ask $175–195, and the $193 one here is the dearer of two. Ask for a tag photo and close-ups of the numbers, and check sellers: one Apex One Marino has no feedback captured, and a Starter Marino elsewhere in the results comes from a 0% seller. Budget buyers should take the $30 Logo Athletic Marino, first-time buyers the $55 Nike mesh in XL, and collectors the Made in USA Logo 7 Marino described as pristine.

NO. 03 · WHAT TO LOOK FOR
  • Number shadows: navy drop shadows on the numbers mean 1997 or later. Earlier 90s numbers have no navy.
  • Logo version: the leaping dolphin was updated in 1997 with a simpler sunburst and a darker dolphin. Check any logo on the jersey against the year.
  • On-field maker: Wilson (1990–96, labeled Wilson Staff in 1995), Starter (1997–98), Nike (1999).
  • Orange jerseys: Miami first wore an orange jersey in 2003, so an orange game-style jersey is not a 90s design.
  • 1994 75th-anniversary patch: every team wore a diamond-shaped NFL 75th Anniversary patch that season, and most wore throwback uniforms in selected games. A jersey with that patch is a 1994 piece.
  • NFL shield at the collar: on-field jerseys gained a small NFL shield at the bottom of the collar in 1991, so its presence or absence helps date a piece to before or after that season.
  • Champion made replica jerseys for every NFL team from the 1980s until 2000, and Starter made replicas for all teams from 1992 to 1998. These retail replicas are the most common 90s jerseys you will find.
NO. 04 · REPRODUCTIONS & BOOTLEGS
  • Mitchell & Ness has made football throwbacks since 2000. They copy classic designs closely but carry the Mitchell & Ness name on the labels, so check every tag before trusting the design.
  • The Dolphins have worn 1970s-style aqua throwbacks since 2015 and a white version since 2019. Those carry Nike labels and the NFL shield design used since 2012.
  • The 1997 look lasted through 2012, so a clean jersey with the updated logo can be a 2002–11 Reebok piece. Check the label and the "NFL Equipment" collar shield used from 2002.
  • Mitchell & Ness sells its NFL Legacy and Authentic throwbacks in numeric sizes (36 S, 40 M, 44 L, 48 XL, 52 2XL, 56 3XL), so a numeric size on its own does not prove a jersey is old.

NO. 05 · SIZING

Tag sizes can differ between makers such as Champion, Starter and the on-field suppliers, so treat the tag as a starting point. Ask for pit-to-pit (armpit to armpit, laid flat) and back length from collar to hem, and compare them with a jersey you own. Tagged sizes vary by maker and era, and many listings are mis-sized.

Is my Marino jersey from the 90s?

Marino retired after the 1999 season. A Marino jersey with a Reebok label or the "NFL Equipment" collar shield (2002 on) was made after his career. A 90s example has a Wilson, Starter or Nike label, or a Champion replica label, and its numbers show navy shadows only if it is 1997 or later.

What changed on Dolphins jerseys in 1997?

The logo was updated with a simpler sunburst and a darker dolphin, and the numbers switched to a new block font with navy drop shadows. The colors and basic design stayed the same.

Wilson, Starter or Nike?

Wilson made the on-field jerseys from 1990 to 1996, Starter in 1997–98 and Nike in 1999. Champion (through 2000) and Starter (1992–98) made the retail replicas. Match the label to the number style for the year.

How do I tell a 90s original from a Mitchell & Ness?

Read every label. Mitchell & Ness has made football throwbacks since 2000 and puts its own name on the tags, and it sells them in numeric sizes (44 is a large), so a numeric size is not a sign of age. Then check the details against the year the jersey claims to be from: the collar shield, any patches and the design changes listed above.
