Vintage 1990s Bears

jerseys.

Bears jerseys barely change, which is part of their appeal: navy or white, orange-and-white sleeve stripes, and the rounded numbers that set Chicago apart from the league's block numerals. The "GSH" initials on the left sleeve, honoring George Halas, have been there since 1984.

Early-90s names carry over from the 1985 team: Mike Singletary (#50) through 1992, Neal Anderson (#35) through 1993, Richard Dent (#95) and William Perry (#72). On the field the Bears wore Wilson in 1992, Champion from 1993 to 1996 and Nike from 1997, per the Gridiron Uniform Database. Champion and Starter made the retail replicas.

From Oct 3, 2026 listings

195 Bears jerseys are listed for the 90s, most asking $30–60 delivered, and nothing in the captured results tops about $78. The 90s Bears had no superstar, so Rashaan Salaam, Curtis Enis, Rick Mirer and Bryan Cox jerseys sell cheaply, while 90s Champion cuts of '85 legends such as Mike Singletary and Richard Dent cost a little more. Prioritise a period maker (Champion, Starter, Logo 7, Logo Athletic, Wilson, or Nike late in the decade) and ask for a tag photo, pit-to-pit and close-ups of the numbers, which crack on screen-printed replicas. There are no real red flags in this snapshot beyond sizing: some sellers call a 52 an XXL when 52 usually means XL, and several titles cut the size off. Budget buyers should take the $25 Logo 7 Salaam, first-time buyers the $39 Champion mesh in 52, and collectors the $46 Champion Singletary.

NO. 03 · WHAT TO LOOK FOR
  • Rounded numbers and GSH: Bears jerseys of the decade use the team's rounded numbers and carry GSH on the left sleeve. Block numbers on a Bears jersey are a red flag.
  • Maker by year: Wilson (1992), Champion (1993–96), Nike (1997–99). A Champion Bears jersey may be an on-field-style piece or a retail replica, so ask about the number application.
  • No. 34 patch: from November 1999 the Bears wore a No. 34 patch honoring Walter Payton, which ties a jersey to the end of that season.
  • 1994 throwback: the Bears wore throwbacks with logo-less navy helmets for the NFL's 75th season, and every 1994 jersey had the diamond 75th Anniversary patch.
  • Navy shade: the Bears darkened their blue slightly in 2002, so a jersey that looks unusually dark next to a known 90s piece may be newer.
  • NFL shield at the collar: on-field jerseys gained a small NFL shield at the bottom of the collar in 1991, so its presence or absence helps date a piece to before or after that season.
  • Champion made replica jerseys for every NFL team from the 1980s until 2000, and Starter made replicas for all teams from 1992 to 1998. These retail replicas are the most common 90s jerseys you will find.
NO. 04 · REPRODUCTIONS & BOOTLEGS
  • Mitchell & Ness has made football throwbacks since 2000. They copy classic designs closely but carry the Mitchell & Ness name on the labels, so check every tag before trusting the design.
  • Because the design is nearly unchanged, Reebok (2002–11) and Nike (2012 on) jerseys look like 90s ones. Nike-era jerseys moved the sleeve numbers onto the shoulders and enlarged the GSH, which helps spot them.
  • Later "Monsters of the Midway" throwbacks reused the 1994 idea of a logo-less navy helmet. Jerseys from that line are modern pieces, not 90s originals.
  • Mitchell & Ness sells its NFL Legacy and Authentic throwbacks in numeric sizes (36 S, 40 M, 44 L, 48 XL, 52 2XL, 56 3XL), so a numeric size on its own does not prove a jersey is old.

NO. 05 · SIZING

Tag sizes can differ between makers such as Champion, Starter and the on-field suppliers, so treat the tag as a starting point. Ask for pit-to-pit (armpit to armpit, laid flat) and back length from collar to hem, and compare them with a jersey you own. Tagged sizes vary by maker and era, and many listings are mis-sized.

NO. 08 · FIELD NOTES

Is a Champion Bears jersey authentic or a replica?

Either is possible. Champion made the Bears' on-field jerseys from 1993 to 1996 and also made replicas for every NFL team into 2000. Ask for close-ups of the numbers, the fabric and every tag.

How do I tell a 90s Bears jersey from a newer one?

Check the maker (Wilson, Champion, Nike or Starter fit the decade; Reebok means 2002 or later), the collar shield, and the sleeve numbers, which moved to the shoulders on Nike jerseys from 2012.

What is the No. 34 patch?

Walter Payton died in November 1999, a week before the Bears played Green Bay. The team wore a No. 34 patch from then through the end of the season.

How do I tell a 90s original from a Mitchell & Ness?

Read every label. Mitchell & Ness has made football throwbacks since 2000 and puts its own name on the tags, and it sells them in numeric sizes (44 is a large), so a numeric size is not a sign of age. Then check the details against the year the jersey claims to be from: the collar shield, any patches and the design changes listed above.
