Vintage 1990s Eagles

jerseys.

Philadelphia changed its whole look mid-decade. Through 1995 the Eagles wore kelly green and silver, with the flying-eagle logo and silver helmet wings. In 1996 the team switched to a darker "midnight green," mostly dropped silver, turned the helmet wings mainly white and replaced the logo with a white eagle head and block lettering.

Kelly green is the era of Randall Cunningham (#12, 1985–95) and Reggie White (#92, 1985–92). On the field the Eagles wore Russell Athletic from 1992 to 1996, Starter in 1997–98 and Puma in 1999, per the Gridiron Uniform Database. Champion and Starter made the retail replicas.

Which one to buy

From Oct 3, 2026 listings

210 Eagles jerseys are listed for the 90s, most at $45–110 delivered, a high band because kelly-green pieces from before the 1996 switch to midnight green carry a premium. Randall Cunningham and Reggie White in kelly green are the collector names; Ricky Watters, Irving Fryar and Ty Detmer replicas from 1995–98 are the cheap, wearable end. Ask for a tag photo with the numeric size (48 = L, 52 = XL, 54 = XXL) and close-ups of the numbers. Red flags: two Champion Cunningham listings with word-for-word identical titles from different sellers at about $87 and $107, and a gray Starter at about $359, three times the band top. Budget buyers should take the $25 Starter Watters, first-time buyers the Starter Fryar in Medium, and collectors the Russell #34 from the kelly-green years.

NO. 03 · WHAT TO LOOK FOR
  • Kelly vs midnight green: kelly green means 1995 or earlier; the darker midnight green arrived in 1996. Screens and indoor light can blur the two, so ask for daylight photos.
  • Logo: the eagle in flight carrying a football was the logo through 1995. The white eagle head replaced it in 1996.
  • Numbers: the 1996 design's numbers gained black shadows and silver trim only in 2003, so plain numbers on midnight green fit 1996–2002.
  • On-field maker by year: Russell Athletic (1992–96), Starter (1997–98), Puma (1999). Russell ended its pro league licensing deals in 1997.
  • 1994 75th-anniversary patch: every team wore a diamond-shaped NFL 75th Anniversary patch that season, and most wore throwback uniforms in selected games. A jersey with that patch is a 1994 piece.
  • NFL shield at the collar: on-field jerseys gained a small NFL shield at the bottom of the collar in 1991, so its presence or absence helps date a piece to before or after that season.
  • Champion made replica jerseys for every NFL team from the 1980s until 2000, and Starter made replicas for all teams from 1992 to 1998. These retail replicas are the most common 90s jerseys you will find.
NO. 04 · REPRODUCTIONS & BOOTLEGS
  • Mitchell & Ness has made football throwbacks since 2000. They copy classic designs closely but carry the Mitchell & Ness name on the labels, so check every tag before trusting the design.
  • Kelly green returned as an Eagles alternate in 2023, so brand-new kelly-green jerseys are everywhere. They carry Nike labels and the NFL shield design used since 2012.
  • The Eagles wore 1960 championship-style throwbacks in 2010 and 1933-style blue-and-yellow throwbacks in 2007. Those are modern pieces, not 90s jerseys.
  • Mitchell & Ness sells its NFL Legacy and Authentic throwbacks in numeric sizes (36 S, 40 M, 44 L, 48 XL, 52 2XL, 56 3XL), so a numeric size on its own does not prove a jersey is old.

NO. 05 · SIZING

Tag sizes can differ between makers such as Champion, Starter and the on-field suppliers, so treat the tag as a starting point. Ask for pit-to-pit (armpit to armpit, laid flat) and back length from collar to hem, and compare them with a jersey you own. Tagged sizes vary by maker and era, and many listings are mis-sized.

NO. 08 · FIELD NOTES

How can I tell a pre-1996 Eagles jersey?

Kelly green, silver trim and the flying-eagle logo mean 1995 or earlier. Then check the maker: Russell Athletic made the on-field jerseys from 1992, and Champion and Starter made fan replicas.

Can a midnight green jersey be from the 90s?

Yes. Midnight green arrived in 1996, so 1996–99 jerseys are true 90s pieces. Look for plain numbers without black shadows (added in 2003) and a Russell Athletic (1996), Starter (1997–98), Puma (1999), Champion or Starter replica label.

Is this kelly-green jersey vintage or a new alternate?

Kelly green came back as an alternate in 2023. A new one has Nike labels and the current NFL shield at the collar. A 90s original has a period maker's label and the older shield, or none if it predates 1991.

How do I tell a 90s original from a Mitchell & Ness?

Read every label. Mitchell & Ness has made football throwbacks since 2000 and puts its own name on the tags, and it sells them in numeric sizes (44 is a large), so a numeric size is not a sign of age. Then check the details against the year the jersey claims to be from: the collar shield, any patches and the design changes listed above.
