Vintage 1980s Raiders

jerseys.

The Raiders opened the decade in Oakland, winning Super Bowl XV after the 1980 season, then moved to Los Angeles for 1982 and won Super Bowl XVIII after the 1983 season. The uniform never changed: the silver-and-black design from 1963, with black home jerseys and silver numbers, and white road jerseys with black numbers outlined in silver.

The LA-era names are Marcus Allen (#32, 1982–92), Bo Jackson (#34, 1987–90) and Howie Long (#75, 1981–93). Champion made replica jerseys for every NFL team from the 1980s on, so its label is the one to expect on a fan jersey of the period. Because the design is unchanged to this day, the label and the collar matter more than the look.

Which one to buy

From Oct 3, 2026 listings

128 Raiders jerseys are listed for the 80s, most asking $50–120 delivered, roughly double the 90s Raiders band. The team was the Los Angeles Raiders from 1982 to 1994, so the prized pieces are LA-era Marcus Allen #32, Bo Jackson #34 and Howie Long jerseys from Sand-Knit, MacGregor Sand-Knit, Rawlings, Russell and Wilson; a jersey titled 'Oakland' that claims the 80s needs a tag photo to date it. Ask every seller for the tag, pit-to-pit and close-ups of the numbers, and whether they are sewn or screened. Red flags: a Sand-Knit Bo Jackson in size 36 at about $510, more than four times the band top, and a 'Bo Jackson #32 Size 60' elsewhere in the results that carries Marcus Allen's number. Budget buyers should take the $47 Rawlings #32, first-time buyers the $57 Rawlings Howie Long in XL, and collectors the $146 MacGregor Sand-Knit Bo Jackson in 48.

NO. 03 · WHAT TO LOOK FOR
  • No collar shield: on-field NFL jerseys gained a small NFL shield at the bottom of the collar in 1991. A jersey styled as 80s that carries it was made in 1991 or later.
  • Player and city: Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson played for the Raiders only in Los Angeles. An Allen or Bo jersey branded Oakland is a later retro or a custom.
  • Same design for decades: the look barely changed from 1963 into the 2020s, so date by label, fabric and collar, not the color scheme.
  • Champion made replica jerseys for every NFL team from the 1980s to 2000, so a Champion label fits an 80s fan jersey. The same label ran through the 90s, though, so check the collar and design details too.
  • Starter came later: Starter's NFL replica jerseys date from 1992, so a Starter-label jersey of an 80s player is a 90s product.
  • Two cities, one decade: the 1980 and 1981 teams were Oakland, the 1982–94 teams Los Angeles. A listing's city should match the player's years.
  • Make sure the maker, the era and the design agree. A label from a company that did not make that team's gear in that period, or a design detail from a later season, means the jersey is newer or not what it claims to be.
NO. 04 · REPRODUCTIONS & BOOTLEGS
  • Mitchell & Ness has made football throwbacks since 2000. They copy classic designs closely but carry the Mitchell & Ness name on the labels, so check every tag before trusting the design. Mitchell & Ness sells Raiders throwbacks under the Los Angeles Raiders name.
  • Retro-style jerseys are older than you might think: the NFL launched a Throwbacks Collection at retail in 1991, with jerseys licensed to Tiedman & Company Sportswear. A throwback design is not proof the jersey dates to the era it copies.
  • Modern copies give themselves away at the collar: Reebok jerseys from 2002 to 2011 carry the "NFL Equipment" shield, and Nike jerseys from 2012 carry the redesigned shield.
  • Mitchell & Ness sells its NFL Legacy and Authentic throwbacks in numeric sizes (36 S, 40 M, 44 L, 48 XL, 52 2XL, 56 3XL), so a numeric size on its own does not prove a jersey is old.

NO. 05 · SIZING

Modern throwbacks often use numeric sizes (Mitchell & Ness: 40 M, 44 L, 48 XL), while period replicas carry their own maker's sizing, so the tag alone tells you little about fit. Ask for pit-to-pit (armpit to armpit, laid flat) and back length from collar to hem, and compare them with a jersey you own. Tagged sizes vary by maker and era, and many listings are mis-sized.

Is this an Oakland or a Los Angeles Raiders jersey?

The Raiders played in Oakland in 1980 and 1981 and in Los Angeles from 1982 to 1994. The uniform was the same in both cities, so use the player's years and the label. Allen and Bo Jackson jerseys are LA by definition.

How do I tell an 80s original from a Mitchell & Ness?

Read every label: Mitchell & Ness has made football throwbacks since 2000, sells LA Raiders designs and puts its own name on the tags. Also check the collar. An 80s jersey has no NFL shield there, while anything made from 1991 on usually does.

Whose jerseys are these?

Mostly the LA stars: Marcus Allen (#32, 1982–92), Bo Jackson (#34, 1987–90) and Howie Long (#75, 1981–93). Bo played only four NFL seasons, all in Los Angeles.

Champion or Starter?

Champion made NFL replica jerseys from the 1980s, so a Champion label fits the decade. Starter's NFL replicas started in 1992, so a Starter Bo or Allen jersey is a 90s product, even though the player is an 80s icon.
