Vintage 1990s Raiders

sweatshirts.

This collection covers Raiders sweatshirts made from 1990 to 1999, a decade split between two cities. The team played as the Los Angeles Raiders through the 1994 season and moved back to Oakland for 1995. The LA years made silver and black a fixture of hip-hop and street style, with N.W.A among the best-known fans.

Little else changed: the silver-and-black colors and shield logo date to Al Davis's arrival in 1963. That makes the city name the main dating tell. Logo 7, Starter, Salem Sportswear, Nutmeg Mills and Pro Player made licensed Raiders fleece. Los Angeles-era crewnecks on period tags, with dated, uncracked prints, are the classic pick.

Which one to buy

From Oct 3, 2026 listings

58 Raiders sweatshirts are listed, most at $45–85 delivered, and the city in the title helps date them: the team was in Los Angeles until 1994 and Oakland from 1995, so a '90s Oakland' piece should be mid-to-late decade. Prioritise a period tag (Trench, Salem, Starter, Logo Athletic, Tultex, Russell, Champion), ask for a tag photo, pit-to-pit and length, and treat 'thrashed' or 'distressed' as visible wear. Seller feedback wasn't captured for these listings, so check it on each item page. Red flags: a Nike quarter-zip at about $260 delivered, three times the top of the band; two near-identical Bo Jackson crewneck titles at $58–59 that need tag photos to rule out a reprint; and Majestic, which mostly made NFL fanwear after 2000. The 1994 Trench LA crewneck at $61 is the pick for most buyers; the $34 Majestic is only a bargain once its tag checks out.

NO. 03 · WHAT TO LOOK FOR
  • Read the city. "Los Angeles" pieces date from 1982 through the 1994 season; "Oakland" pieces in this decade date from 1995 on.
  • The shield logo and silver-and-black colors have been essentially unchanged since 1963, so the logo itself won't separate a 1991 crewneck from a 1998 one.
  • Maker tags of the decade: Logo 7 (renamed Logo Athletic in 1997), Starter, Salem Sportswear, Nutmeg Mills and its Lee Sport label (from 1995), Russell Athletic and Pro Player.
  • Tag history narrows the date: Salem was sold to Fruit of the Loom in 1993 and folded into Pro Player, Russell ended its pro football licensing in 1997, and Logo Athletic and Starter were both bankrupt by about 1999.
  • A copyright year printed under the graphic (for example, © 1994) plus licensing text such as "Officially Licensed NFL Product" or an NFL Properties mark. The year should agree with the tag and the construction.
  • 1994 throwback graphics are period-correct: the Raiders wore 1963-style helmets with 1970-style silver numbers that season for the NFL's 75th anniversary.
  • A Made in USA tag. Big makers moved sewing to Mexico and the Caribbean during the 90s, so a US-made tag supports an earlier date, while a Latin American tag usually points later in the decade.
NO. 04 · REPRODUCTIONS & BOOTLEGS
  • Licensed retro lines such as Mitchell & Ness (NFL throwbacks since about 2000, owned by Fanatics since 2022), Homage and Junk Food reprint LA-era Raiders logos on new blanks. Their own brand tags give them away, and Homage names designs by year (a '93 crewneck, for example), so a year in a listing title proves nothing.
  • A Reebok tag dates NFL gear to 2002-2012, when Reebok held the league's exclusive uniform, sideline and cap license. A Nike tag is later still, since Nike took over the league's uniform contract in 2012.
  • The Las Vegas move in 2020 changed only the city wordmark, so a "Las Vegas" mark on a supposedly vintage piece rules it out, and a "Los Angeles" mark on a modern tag is a retro reissue.
  • A familiar label is not automatic proof. Starter is still an active NFL licensee and the Nutmeg Mills name has been revived for vintage-style graphics, so check that the tag design, fabric and country of origin fit the period, not just the brand name.
  • Dealers list the same red flags again and again: wrong neck tags for the era, missing licensing text, a copyright year that doesn't match the tag, and artificial distressing. A cut-out tag removes the best evidence, so price that piece as unverified.

NO. 05 · SIZING

Tagged sizes from the 90s don't line up neatly with modern sizing, and cotton-rich fleece shrinks in hot washes, which is why Champion patented its shrink-resisting Reverse Weave cut. Ask the seller for pit-to-pit and top-to-bottom length in inches and compare them with a sweatshirt you already own. A stretched waistband or blown-out cuffs will make it fit looser than the numbers suggest.

How do I tell LA-era from Oakland-era 90s Raiders gear?

By the wordmark. The Raiders played in Los Angeles from 1982 through the 1994 season and returned to Oakland for 1995. Gear naming Los Angeles is 1994 or earlier; Oakland gear in the 90s is 1995 or later.

Why are LA Raiders crewnecks so popular?

The team's Los Angeles years tied silver and black to hip-hop culture, with N.W.A wearing Raiders gear and Chuck D wearing Raiders colors on a Public Enemy album cover. That crossover keeps demand high beyond football fans.

Does single stitching matter on a vintage sweatshirt?

Not much. Single-stitch hems are a T-shirt dating tell, common on tees made before the late 1990s. Sweatshirts finish the cuffs and waist with ribbed bands, so judge a crewneck by its tag, its licensing text and the copyright year on the print instead.

Did the Raiders win a Super Bowl in the 90s?

No. Their last title in Los Angeles was Super Bowl XVIII after the 1983 season. A Raiders champions graphic dated to the 90s would be a commemorative design, not a title-year piece.
